The Horse in Chantilly
Historically, the Great Stables were built in the 18th century for the horses of the princely hunting teams. Then, during the 19th century, the site of the Great Stables became the setting for another equestrian activity: horse racing.
Today, the horse world is the heart of Chantilly's economic activity with all the professions linked to it.
The Races
Since 1834
The racecourse was inaugurated in 1834.
Today , two hundred races take place each day, spread over forty days. The two most prestigious events on the France Galop programme, namely the Prix du Jockey-Club (since 1836) and the Prix de Diane Longines (since 1843), take place there with the Grandes Écuries in the background.
The Chantilly training center , 400 hectares and 120 km of tracks , is the largest in France if not in Europe, with almost three thousand horses in training in the neighboring towns of Chantilly, Gouvieux, Lamorlaye, Coye-la-Forêt and Avilly-Saint-Léonard.
The Polo

Chantilly also has a Polo Club with 9 fields on 205 hectares , the largest in Europe , which hosts major national and international competitions with sometimes more than a thousand horses on the site.
The CSO
Ever higher
Finally, the Chantilly Jumping , International Show Jumping Competition (CSO), has been a major event on the international circuit for many years, taking place in front of the Grandes Écuries.
