Polo's showcase
The Society of Friends of the Grandes Écuries promoted the idea of bringing Polo - a sport that is thousands of years old, considered the oldest team sport - into the Horse Museum, where it has its rightful place. A spectacular sport for real riders, full of history, originating from the confines of Asia, Polo plays an important role in our Chantilly equestrian community thanks to the formidable Polo Club of Chantilly, the largest in Europe, based at the Apremont farm, on the grounds of the Domaine de Chantilly, a stone's throw from the Grandes Écuries.
Ultimately, we aim to create the first Polo museum in Europe in the very heart of the Grandes Écuries. To begin with, under the leadership of Mathieu Deldicque, Chief Curator of the museum and our friend Marie Mouterde, his dynamic Conservation Assistant, we have embarked with them on the creation of a "Polo Showcase" within the Horse Museum, which should be inaugurated in the summer of 2024.
The Condé Harnesses
We have reported in previous press releases on the funding by our Society of Friends of the restoration of the harnesses of the ceremonial carriage of the Duke of Orleans at the coronation of King Charles X. The first of "our" harnesses has been restored and will soon be exhibited with an existing harness.
We recently learned that the Mobilier National will organize a major exhibition in spring 2025 for the bicentenary (May 29, 1825 - May 29, 2025) of the coronation of Charles X, the last King of France. The Condé harnesses created for this coronation will have their place there. We have contributed to the financing of the restorations of 3 of the first 4 harnesses. The curators of the Musée du Cheval wish to restore 2 more initially, thus finalizing the restoration of two additional harnesses with the final objective of reconstituting the original 8-horse harness. We would therefore like to try to finance these next 2 restorations in 2025 – an objective for which we are asking you to enlist your support today.
